IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: QUIET/NOISY PLACES

Do you like quiet or noisy places? I love the former choice, and that’s because I feel at ease in those kinds of places. I enjoy spending my time in quiet places, such as libraries, quiet cafés, parks, and beaches, especially on weekdays. With those places, I can think and reflect on my life.

Talking about quiet and noisy places in your IELTS Speaking exam is easy when you have ideas, and you know some topic vocabulary words to use, or some idiomatic language to express your ideas more effectively.

Some examples of quiet places include libraries, prayer rooms, cemeteries, and the countryside. As for noisy places, you can include places that are crowded, such as restaurants, busy streets, markets, and shopping malls.

Here are natural and high-band sample answers with advanced vocabulary and natural phrasing to help you sound fluent, confident, natural, and conversational. These responses are tailored for real IELTS test scenarios, including personalized examples that make you communicate as if you’re not taking the IELTS Speaking test, but you’re casually having a conversation with your examiner.

In this post, you’ll learn:

  • How to structure a high-scoring answer (with 2 real examples).
  • IELTS-specific vocabulary to boost your Lexical Resource score.
  • Complex and compound sentences to vary your sentence structures and grammar so you can get a higher score in the criterion, Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
  • Natural and conversational answers that examiners prefer over memorized or template replies.

Let’s dive into the sample answers!

PART 1

QUIET/NOISY PLACES

Do you like quiet or noisy places?

(Answer 1)

I love the former (first choice), and that’s because I feel at ease in those kinds of places. I enjoy spending my time in quiet places, such as libraries, quiet cafés, parks, and beaches, especially on weekdays. With those places, I can think and reflect on my life.

(Answer 2)

I love both of them, and it depends on my mood and the situation I’m in. If I do something serious, I want to stay in a quiet place so I can easily concentrate. However, if I want to interact with others or I want to destress, I prefer visiting places with a lot of people, and where I can forget about my work.

Would you like to go to quiet or noisy places on weekends when you are free?

(Answer 1)

Well, there’s already a lot of noise and stress at work, so without a doubt (absolutely), I go for a quiet place in order to recharge my batteries (to regain one’s energy). I can either stay at home on weekends, read a book, or binge (indulge) my favorite TV series, go hiking, or enjoy the sea breeze.

(Answer 2)

For me, weekends are for socializing, so it’s expected to visit noisy places. It’s common for me to meet my friends on weekends at a restaurant or a bar. I enjoy the ambiance (atmosphere) of those places, because it simply makes me alive after working like a dog (to work very hard) for the entire weekdays.
