IELTS SPEAKING PART 1

TOPIC Questions and

ANSWERS

Do you think the roads in your city need improvement?

(Answer 1)

Well, based on my observation, they’re better than before so I think they’re already improved. The roads are paved (to cover an area of ground with concrete) well and the signs are clear enough for drivers to see. But if I can suggest one thing to the city government, I want them to plant some trees along the road so that during summertime the heat index in the city will go down.

(Answer 2)

Definitely! I hate some roads in the city because there are parts that have some potholes (holes in a road surface) and some are uneven. I dunno why they don’t take such immediate action to improve those parts. I believe the mayor of our city is ineffective.

What is the condition of the roads in your city like?

(Answer 1)

Personally, I think they’re already good. I can drive very smoothly in the city since the roads are pretty even. There are reflectors at night that help us drivers see the roads clearly, and the pavement markers are absolutely visible.

(Answer 2)

It’s not as great as other cities in this country and I believe our city government can do better. The problem is that there’s a bureaucracy (a system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials rather than by elected representatives) in our country that slows down the decision of our city government officials to improve our roads. And sadly, if our elected city officials don’t have better relationships with other state leaders, then, the possibility of improving our roads becomes thin.

Are the roads and streets in the area where you live busy?

(Answer 1)

It’s undeniably busy during rush hours as expected. People going to their respective work surely crowd the streets. I think that’s pretty normal in every big city. Luckily, I work from home so that doesn’t bother me.

(Answer 2)

Yes, of course! It’s busier at 7 AM  because people go to work or school, and at 4 PM when people return to their homes. Honestly, I don’t like living in this city because it’s crowded, however, I just don’t have any choice since my work is here.

How do people cross the road in the city where you live?

Oh! That’s an amusing question. Well, of course, people use the pedestrian lane to cross the road because that’s the rule and that’s the safest way. Also, in some parts of this city, there are some overpasses (bridges that carry a road over another road) that people can use if they want to cross the street.
