IELTS SPEAKING PART 1:

FISH & FISHING

ANSWERS

Have you ever been to a place with lots of fish around you?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I once traveled to one of the islands in this country and went fishing. I was at a loss for words because of so much fish. It didn’t take me hours to catch a lot of healthy salmon. That experience was truly one for the books (a surprising or unexpected event).

(Answer 2)

Yes! I remember when I went snorkeling in the southern part of this country, I was surrounded by many kinds of fish and they’re very beautiful. I saw some clownfish, blue tang, butterfly fish, Moorish idols, and many more. I actually enjoyed swimming with them during that time but unfortunately, I couldn’t take pictures as I left my water-resistant camera.

Is fishing popular in your country?

(Answer 1)

Absolutely! Fishing is one of the common hobbies that people in this country enjoy during summertime. So, people can expect that some rivers or lakes are crowded with people who enjoy this hobby every summer. I’m lucky because I don’t need to go to those popular lakes or rivers to fish as I live in the countryside where I can always go fishing in the lake nearby.

(Answer 2)

I’m not sure about this but I can see some people go fishing every summer, especially in the countryside. Some people in the city travel to the south for their summer vacation and some of them go fishing. But I don’t think that happens in many places in this country. I think fishing is not a popular hobby in this country.

Why do people go fishing?

(Answer 1)

Well, some people want adventure! They just enjoy the feeling of catching fish after hours of waiting. As we know, fishing takes a lot of patience. When one finally catches fish, that gives him a sense of pride and he feels victorious (triumphant).

(Answer 2)

That’s because fishing is the livelihood (source of income) of some people. They have to catch fish as much as possible so they can sell them to the market. It’s a way to make a living for them.

Have you seen any movies with lots of fish?

(Answer 1)

Yes, but I only remember one movie right now and it’s Finding Nemo. That movie was a part of my childhood and because of that movie, I learned what a clownfish looked like. Well, there were many kinds of fish in that movie and they were incredibly (unusually) beautiful.

(Answer 2)

I don’t remember if I’ve seen a movie with lots of fish. I dunno I guess not. Because if I watched one in the past and it’s an awesome film, I wouldn’t forget about it. So, perhaps, I haven’t seen one yet.

Do you like fishing?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I do and it’s my first love (the first or main thing that one enjoys). Fishing has become my favorite pastime (hobby) since I was little because our house was situated near a lake. I remember every summertime, my dad and I spent much time fishing on his tiny boat at the nearest lake and we usually caught plenty of freshwater fish. I have wonderful memories of fishing with my father – well, these days, in spite of my hectic schedule, I still find time (to make some of your time available to do something) to go fishing.

(Answer 2)

Not at all, honestly, I tried it once but it wasn’t as enjoyable as I thought. Perhaps because I’m impatient or maybe it’s not my cup of tea (something that someone dislikes). But anyway, I find pleasure in eating raw fish – the taste and smell are delectably inexplicable (unable to be explained; incomprehensible).

Where can you see fish?

Answer 1

Obviously, we can find fish in different bodies of water such as lakes, ponds, rivers, and seas. I remember I was the happiest the first time I saw a school of fish at a lake near my grandparents’ house. I tried catching some with my cousin but I couldn’t get one.

(Answer 2)

Well, fish live in water so we can see them in rivers or seas. I went fishing with my friends last weekend at one of the largest rivers in this state and we were able to catch very healthy salmon.

Is fishing a good hobby?

(Answer 1)

Indeed, as I said, it’s my first love. I think it’s one of the best hobbies a person can have. I find fishing helpful to relieve (alleviate) my work-related stress and it helps me feel a sense of fulfillment (the feeling of satisfaction), most especially when I catch some of my favorite fish like tuna, trout, and cod. My day’s complete once I get one of those.

(Answer 2)

Well, that depends. Those who are fanatics about fishing would surely say it’s the best hobby in the world, but people like me who find it boring would surely never consider it a good one. So it’s just a matter of personal preference (personal choice).

(Answer 3)

To be honest with you, I’ve never tried fishing so I don’t have any idea whether or not fishing is fun. But I guess, that’s not difficult to love, especially if one is an outdoor type of person. I think that’s exciting but it surely tries one’s patience. I’ll add that to my bucket list (a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to achieve during their lifetime).

Do you like eating fish?

(Answer 1)

Without a doubt (indisputably)! Fish is one of the healthiest foods on the planet. It’s loaded with essential nutrients like protein and Vitamin D. Not to mention, it’s a good source of omega-3 fatty acids which are crucial (of great importance) for optimal (best or the most favorable) body and brain function. Actually, I prefer eating fish over meat.

(Answer 2)

I’m not a big fan (not interested) of eating fish. I hate the smell of it and I feel uncomfortable with its texture when I start swallowing and chewing it. I feel like I eat some cotton when I eat fish. Well, I don’t know, maybe I’m just too fussy (finicky; picky).

What kinds of fish do you like eating?

I can eat any kind of fish but my favorites include mackerel, tuna, trout, and salmon. I know they cost an arm and a leg (be extremely expensive) but they’re extremely healthy. Well, I wouldn’t compromise (harm or damage) my health by eating more meat just because it’s cheaper than fish.
