IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: SAYING THANK YOU [ANSWERS]

On what occasions do you say, Thank you? Well, every time someone helps me out, gives me a gift, or does me a favor. I never miss saying ‘thank you’. I always believe that showing appreciation to people goes a long way. I’m glad that my parents taught me the importance of expressing gratitude to others.

PART 1

SAYING THANK YOU

Have you ever sent a thank-you card to others?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I have! Actually, I sent one to my mom last Mother’s Day, as I couldn’t see her on that day. She videocalled me when she got it and thanked me for it. I could’ve just greeted her by sending her a text message,  but a handwritten card felt more heartfelt (sincere).

(Answer 2)

Not recently, but in the past, I used to send thank-you cards to my parents when I was living away from them. These days, I don’t do it as I express my gratitude to my parents directly. I do say “thank you” a lot. Maybe I should start doing what I used to do.

Do people in your country often say, Thank you?

(Answer 1)

Yes, and that’s part of our culture. I mean,  it’s drilled into (taught repeatedly) us from childhood to be polite. It’s second nature (automatic) for us. We’re taught to say ‘thank you’ when someone does something for us. Their kindness and efforts don’t go unnoticed (to not be seen, heard, or recognized).

(Answer 2)

Some people do and some don’t, and that depends on the situation and how people are raised. Some are naturally polite, so they always say ‘thank you’. However, some are not taught the importance of expressing politeness and being appreciative to people who do them a favor. As for me, I always say, ‘thank you’.

On what occasions do you say, Thank you?

(Answer 1)

Well, every time someone helps me out, gives me a gift, or does me a favor. I never miss saying ‘thank you’. I always believe that showing appreciation to people goes a long way (has a big impact). I’m glad that my parents taught me the importance of expressing gratitude to others.

(Answer 2)

Aside from the obvious ones, like someone is helping me out, I say it when someone understands and listens to my complaints in life. It’s good to have friends who put up with (tolerate) my rants and never judge me. These people truly deserve a “thank you”!

Why do people need to say, Thank you?

(Answer 1)

Saying ‘thank you’ is simply acknowledging (recognizing) someone’s effort. Saying it to people who have done something for you shows that you don’t take them for granted (ignore their value). And I’m sure when you say it sincerely, they’ll appreciate it, and they’ll never get tired of helping you, as you know how to show your appreciation toward them.

(Answer 2)

First of all, to show politeness. Second, saying ‘thank you’ strengthens relationships. When we say ‘thank you’ to someone, they feel valued, and that builds trust. Can you imagine making so much effort in helping someone, but in the end, that person can’t even say a  single ‘thank you’? That’s the easiest way to break relationships.
