IELTS Speaking Part 1: Stories

PART 1

STORIES

ANSWERS

Do you prefer listening to stories or reading them?

(Answer 1)

I personally prefer the latter as I enjoy reading. It’s my way of entertaining myself and killing time (doing something that keeps you busy while you’re waiting for something to happen), especially when I’m bored. Also, reading stories helps me cultivate (develop) my imagination skills as I normally visualize the characters and settings in my mind.

(Answer 2)

You know what, I just don’t have the patience to read, especially when the story is lengthy (very long), so I go for (choose) listening to stories instead. Ever since audiobooks came into existence, I just can’t get enough (to enjoy something very much) of listening to various stories using my phone or laptop, and I just love it.

What stories did you like when you were young?

(Answer 1)

I remember I enjoyed reading the classics such as Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist,  Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Prince and the Pauper, and many more. Of course, I loved reading Disney classics as well.

(Answer 2)

When I was a kid, I loved reading fables. I think my love for animals grew when I started reading fables, specifically Aesop’s fables. I’ll never forget the story of the Lion and the Mouse, I was seven years old when I read that story, and made me question if we could really make friends with lions and mice. When I think about that now, I can only adore (love) my innocence.

What kind of stories do you read now?

(Answer 1)

I rarely read fictional stories these days, I’m more into news stories as I want to be updated by the latest happenings in my country and the world. Reading such stories helps me with my investing decisions. I know that sounds boring but that’s just what I read now.

(Answer 2)

Well, I don’t read fables now (laughing). Reading inspirational stories is now my cup of tea (be interested in) as they motivate me to do better in life and achieve the goals that I set every single year. I love reading and listening to stories of triumphs after so many adversities (challenges). These stories drive me to keep going (to continue moving forward).
