IELTS Speaking Part 1: Hats

PART 1

HATS

ANSWERS

Do you like to wear hats?

(Answer 1)

Well, I like wearing any types of hat during summertime to protect my head and face from direct sunlight. These days, the heat of the sun is extreme and if we don’t wear a hat, there’s a big chance that our face gets a bad sunburn (a condition in which your skin is sore and red because you have spent too long in the strong heat of the sun).

(Answer 2)

Yes, I love wearing a bucket hat, a baseball cap, a bowler hat, a Fedora, and a cowboy hat. Wearing one is part of my fashion and I do feel good whenever I wear any of those hats as it’s my way of expressing myself.

What kinds of hats do you have?

(Answer 1)

I have bucket hats and baseball caps. Actually, I’ve been a collector of baseball caps since I started traveling abroad, and whenever I visit a new country, I make sure to buy a baseball cap that has the features or symbols of that country. A baseball cap is actually my favorite travel souvenir, and I have plenty at home.

(Answer 2)

As I mentioned, I have a Fedora, bucket hat, baseball cap, cowboy hat, and a bowler hat. They’re stylish and beautiful, and I’ve been wearing them for years now. Oh, I’ve just remembered, I also have different beanies, and obviously, I wear them when the weather gets chilly (cold).

Where do you like to buy hats?

(Answer 1)

There’s one great shop in this town where I buy my hats, but honestly, most of my hats are bought abroad. So, when I travel abroad, I visit some souvenir shops and buy at least two hats, as I said, hats are one of my favorite types of souvenirs when I travel internationally.

(Answer 2)

I don’t have any specific shop in mind whenever I buy a hat. When I stroll (walk in a leisure way) at the mall and see some good hats, I buy one. Or, if I go to a thrift shop (a store that sells used items) and spot some high-quality hats, I never hesitate to buy one or two.

Is wearing a hat popular in your country?

(Answer 1)

Well, in the past, it wasn’t that popular, however, recently, I’ve noticed that it has been prominent among people from all walks of life (people from different economic backgrounds). I think that’s because of the extreme heat of the sun. People are more conscious of protecting their skin from the harsh effects of UV rays (a type of electromagnetic radiation that comes from the sun and other sources). Nobody wants to get skin cancer these days, so nowadays, people are more protective of their skin by wearing sunscreen, and more importantly, a hat.

(Answer 2)

Yes, it is! Aside from the fact that a hat serves its purpose which is to protect one’s head or face from the sun’s heat, wearing one serves as a fashion statement. I have seen a lot of young people wear a hat wherever I go. I suppose it’s part of their style and I admire them for that.
