IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: WALKING [ANSWERS]

PART 1

WALKING

ANSWERS

Do you walk a lot?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I do as it’s part of my daily routine (action or activity that is regularly followed) every morning and afternoon. My workplace is just a stone’s throw (very close) from my house so I have to go there on foot (walking instead of using any means of transport) every day. Well, I like it since I can exercise every day and this helps me keep fit (to keep in good physical condition).

(Answer 2)

Not a lot because I drive my car or take the subway whenever I go out for work or leisure (free time). I don’t have a lot of chances to walk except when my friends invite me to hike or when I go to the park. I know how beneficial walking is, however, life in the suburb (residential area; outlying district) where I live is pretty (fairly) convenient – we have an advanced transportation system, and most residents (locals; inhabitants) rely (depend) on using their private cars.

Do you walk more often now than in the past?

(Answer 1)

Yes absolutely! After I was diagnosed (determine; identify) with cardiovascular disease (heart conditions that include diseased vessels, structural problems, and blood clots), my doctor recommended me to do some brisk walking (another term for walking fast or speed walking) every now and again. When I learned that I could die from cardiac arrest from having a sedentary lifestyle (a lifestyle that involves little or no physical activity), I started to exercise. That was the turning point (a time when one makes a decision to change his situation or ways for beneficial results) of my life! Walking is the kind of exercise that I regularly do now and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

(Answer 2)

Unfortunately not, I’m always behind the wheel (driving a car) whenever I go to work or run errands (to go out to fulfill some tasks). Honestly, I’m a very busy person so I’m always for convenience, I find walking one of the inconveniences in my busy life, besides, walking isn’t common in my town since most people are dependent on using their cars.

Do you think people will walk more in the future?

I doubt it (used as a response to the question or statement about something you think is untrue)! Considering the advancement of technology and more high-tech-related innovations (a new method; idea; product) coming, people will be more reliant on cars or any advanced means of transportation. I believe in the years to come, people will want more convenience than now, so walking will be the last thing they want (something they do not want or need) to do in the midst (in the course of something; during) of technological advancement.

Where do you usually take a walk?

Well, there’s one decent park which is just a short distance from my house that I love visiting whenever I want to breathe fresh air. I enjoy walking around that park, especially when I’m exhausted or stressed out from work because the surroundings put me at ease (to relax). There’s a lake where wild ducks and swans enjoy fluttering (flapping the wings) their wings and that entertains me. Also, there are some massive pine trees that make the atmosphere around the park cool. Because of that, park-goers feel comfortable walking.
