Freshwater is a limited resource in certain regions of the world. Today, the escalating demand has transformed into a global problem. What are the causes of increasing demand? What measures can governments and individuals take to respond to the problem?
SAMPLE ESSAY
Nowadays, some places in the world have been experiencing a scarcity (the lack of something) of freshwater resources and this leads to a world problem since the available water supply can no longer meet the demand. This phenomenon (occurrence) is caused by overpopulation and pollution and this can be improved by the government’s feasible (capable of being done) solutions.
To begin with, the shortage of clean water supply in some places in the world is caused by the increase in population. This means that more people in the world need access to this valuable natural resource to survive. Thus (as a result), the availability of water supply becomes scarce which inevitably (unavoidably) becomes a global challenge. In addition to that, pollution causes the scarcity of freshwater. This is simply because some people are not well-educated about the conservation and preservation of natural water resources. Some of them irresponsibly dispose (throw away) of household waste directly to rivers or lakes which pollutes those water sources.
However, the shortage of clean water resources can be improved provided that the government, especially those countries that are greatly affected by the problem, will take drastic actions. First, they can build water wells (holes drilled into the ground to access water) in specific areas of their country that can supply clean water to their people. Second, they need to conduct campaign programs to educate their citizens about the importance of conservation and preservation of the remaining freshwater resources. Besides, they must seriously penalize those people or factories that cause water pollution. In this way, the global problem of clean water shortage will be reduced.
In conclusion, freshwater scarcity in the world caused by the increase in world population and pollution can be resolved when each country’s government steps in (takes action) to address the problem effectively.
